Rhydybont Beef Herd are members of the D.E.F.R.A Beef Assurance Scheme.

The aim of the scheme is to identify and register specialist beef herds in which no case of B.S.E has ever occurred. The Rhydybont herd is registered under the scheme, permitting beef to be sold for human consumption up to the age of 42 months.

D.E.F.R.A Beef Assurance Scheme Rules.

  1. The herd must be an all beef herd, comprising of animals born in that herd (totally closed herd). Bulls are only sourced from D.E.F.R.A. approved herds.
  2. No presence of any dairy production animals in the herd or blood lines.
  3. No case of B.S.E. has ever occurred in the herd.
  4. No feed containing meat and bone meal has ever been used, feed suppliers are also monitored by D.E.F.R.A.

Strict regulations and true beef herd naturally reared in the mountains of Wales to produce beef of the highest quality. Breeds in herd are Hereford - Aberdeen Angus, Lincoln Red and Limousin.

Compliance with these on-farm standards will be monitored by a twice yearly inspection by Government State Veterinary Service Animal Health Division.

A symbol of True Beef and Excellence also an Approved Producer, attaining the requirements for F.A.W.L./A.B.M. Wales Beef Scheme, membership number 3966. All cattle sold with D.E.F.R.A. Certificate showing identity and scheme status of animal.
